As you know, right at the beginning of 2026, AI was one of the hot topics. I have seen a ton of content around MPC server, Agent, Bedrock, Claude Code, ChatGPT, and you name it. I sit at my desk and wonder what would be a fun thing to try because everything is so new, and I am not familiar with it at all. I researched and made a list of topics; time went by, and nothing really interested me. Until five months ago. Bingo! I finally discovered a personal interest that combines with something that I care about.
AWS and Serverless announcement. I didn't want to keep checking the AWS website for new announcements and releases. I wanted to filter content I care about first, store it somewhere for future ideas, and have it delivered to my email so I wouldn't have to query my database manually. I started researching and found a public AWS RSS feed.
I thought, alright, this seemed to be going in the direction I wanted. Let's keep going.
I created a job that runs daily on a schedule, crawls those feeds, and filters them by keyword. Keywords that I care about are serverless, lambda, step functions, kiro, agentcore, api gateway, and the list goes on. For storage, I considered S3, but querying data would be hard, so I switched to DynamoDB. It's easy to set up, and you pay only for the storage you use, with no overhead management.
Then I have EventBridge Scheduler to run my job twice a day. The job checks whether anything new exists compared to what is already in the database, so I don't get duplicate content.
Later, I started thinking again. What else could I do with the data I have?
I created a new site so I don't have to search the database directly, but that is very basic. I want to build something that is AI-related.
Start to think heavily again. The word that pops up in my head: "Agent". I researched, and I think I understand the concept of an agent. I went ahead and built a job that writes me a weekly summary of AWS content. I used Lambda, then called Bedrock with the Nova Lite model to do the job for me. I did it; I built an Agent. Here we go again, "now what?"
Later on, as my project kept getting bigger, more ideas. I started thinking about an MPC server and, again, an agent.
During this time, I have used Kiro, and it's such a great tool that helps guide me on what I should build. It helps me brainstorm ideas and weigh my options, and it tells me what makes sense to build and what doesn't.
During the day, I received an email about AWS Step Functions workflows now available as AI agent tools. I started to wonder what AgentCore is. I have heard the term, but I have never really read the document. I went to the AWS website and read it. This is what the document said:
"Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is an agentic platform for building, deploying, and operating highly effective agents securely at scale using any framework and foundation model. With AgentCore, you can enable agents to take actions across tools and data with the right permissions and governance, run agents securely at scale, and monitor agent performance and quality in production - all without any infrastructure management."
Whoa, I thought that sounded incredibly insane; you can do that. Again, my ambitious self said, "Let's see what you can build."
I thought about it for several days and decided to chat with Kiro. I knew I could host my MCP Server using AgentCore. I told Kiro that. It gave me a couple of options. I started with a local MCP first, then finally hosted it on AgentCore.
While hosting the MCP server on AgentCore, I was worried about cost. Then I checked to make sure I didn't rack up the bill. I found that it was $0.005/1k. That's great! Now let's build.
With Kiro's help, I completed the project in about an hour, from brainstorming to finishing. But that is not my destination.
I kept going with Kiro and asked follow-up questions because I was still learning. Is my summarized weekly content an agent, and does it respond to me?
The response is.
I was totally surprised, but I told myself it was okay that I didn't get it right the first time because, again. It's completely new, and I'm excited to actually want to build it. I told Kiro to add that to my roadmap. Pretty excited about building the Agent.
Final thought: Looking back, I started this project because I wanted a simple way to keep up with AWS announcements. I had no idea it would lead me to explore Bedrock, MCP servers, and AgentCore.
I still have a lot to learn, and I know there are things I haven't fully figured out yet. But that's okay.
Sometimes, you don't need to have the entire picture before you start building. You just need a little curiosity and the willingness to keep going.
And who knows what I'll build next?
Thanks for reading!
