Hey DEV community! đź‘‹
October is officially here, and I’m diving straight into Hacktoberfest 2026.
I’m Samridhi Tripathi, a 3rd-year Computer Science Engineering student building at the intersection of AI/ML, backend architecture, and human-centric software. Whether I’m engineering real-time data pipelines or prototyping generative AI tools (like TaleWeaver and Kalpana.ai), my goal is always the same: building systems that solve practical, grounded problems rather than just chasing hype.
With this year’s Hacktoberfest putting a sharp spotlight on open-weight models, local inference, and community-driven AI, I’m using this month to build in public and push past routine API wrappers.
🎯 My Game Plan for October
Here is what I’m committing to over the next four weeks:
1.Building with Open-Weight Models: Working directly with open ecosystems like Gemma and local runtimes to see how far we can take low-latency, privacy-first AI without closed-door cloud dependencies.
2.Tackling the Weekly DEV AI Challenges: Diving into the weekly challenge prompts, starting with Week 1's "Touch Grass" theme—designing software that uses intelligent computation to minimize screen dependency.
3.Robust Backend & Production Hygiene: Pairing open models with resilient engineering—leveraging Python, TypeScript, Docker, and distributed caching to build tools that are actually deployable.
4.Honest Technical Writing: Documenting the real development process—benchmarks, edge cases, what broke on local runtimes, and the architectural decisions behind each build.
🛠️ The Tech I'm Working With This Month
- Languages: Python, TypeScript, JavaScript
- Frontend & UI: Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS
- Backend & Systems: FastAPI, Node.js, Docker, Redis
- AI & Runtimes: Open-weight models (Gemma), Ollama/Hugging Face pipelines, agentic orchestration
💬 Let’s Connect & Collaborate!
I’m treating this Hacktoberfest as an opportunity to connect with fellow engineers, open-source maintainers, and builders experimenting with local AI.
- Are you participating in the 2026 weekly AI challenges or contributing to established open-source repos?
- What models and runtimes are you testing right now?
