Current release, Sep 28: Mosaic Shop Intelligence (formerly Mosaic ERP) v2.1.8 is out. It adds printable receipts, stock history with recount, a first-sale guide, dashboards you build by asking in chat, and stock intake from a photographed supplier bill. The built-in chat assistant is the default and works without an AI key. Windows x64, Mac Apple Silicon and Intel installers: https://github.com/Hearthplug/mosaic-erp/releases/tag/v2.1.8

Mosaic Shop Intelligence is an open-source (MIT) retail ERP. The idea is simple: instead of a setup screen with hundreds of switches, the owner answers plain-language questions about how the shop works, and Mosaic configures the working system from those answers: stock, sales, buying, money and books.
v1.3.4 shipped today. It's a first-run release: everything in it is about what happens in the first ten minutes after someone installs Mosaic.
The bug that mattered most: Apply didn't always apply what you reviewed
After the interview, Mosaic shows the owner a review of the setup it's about to install. In earlier versions, pressing Apply could install a different profile from the one on screen. For a coaching or services business, that meant stock tracking and supplier credit could get switched on even though the owner said they didn't need them.
In v1.3.4, Apply installs exactly the profile you reviewed.
The first sale should just work
An ERP that's "configured" but can't post its first invoice isn't configured. Apply now creates the accounting defaults up front: accounts, document sequences, and your country's currency. Older workspaces that were missing them fix themselves the first time they're used.
Smaller fixes in the same release:
- Settings is reachable from the workspace menu.
- Malformed API requests get a clear 400 instead of a 500.
- The Assistant (still a Preview) answers everyday questions like "Show me the tax settings" with the real answer or a link to the right screen.
A real Windows installer
Until now Windows users got a portable exe. v1.3.4 adds MosaicERP-windows-x64-setup.exe, which:
- shows up in Settings > Apps as "Mosaic Shop Intelligence" (publisher Hearthplug), with Start Menu and desktop shortcuts
- has an uninstaller that stops the running services and then asks whether to keep or delete your shop data
The portable exe is still there, and the Mac build (Apple Silicon dmg) ships from the same commit.
A note on signing: the installers are unsigned for now, so Windows SmartScreen will say "Windows protected your PC" (click More info, then Run anyway) and macOS wants a right-click > Open the first time.

If you've ever set up an ERP for a small business, we'd like to know which questions you'd expect the interview to ask that it doesn't yet. Issues and PRs are welcome.

the apply bug is the scary one for an owner. they said no stock in plain words and got stock tracking anyway, and they'd probably only notice when a weird inventory line shows up on an invoice. does the review screen show what it's switching off too, or only what it's turning on?
You're right to ask. In v1.3.4, the review shows the business summary, first goal and why features are enabled. It does not explicitly list the modules left off. The Apply fix makes it use the reviewed setup rather than a different inferred profile, but that doesn't solve the visibility gap you pointed out. An explicit "on/off" list before Apply would make this much easier to catch.
Thanks for catching that. Your question led directly to a fix: the review before Apply now has "On for you" and "Left off for now" lists, each with a plain explanation of the module. The change is approved and going through merge now: github.com/Hearthplug/mosaic-erp/p... . It isn't in the current release; it will ship in the next update.
oh nice, you actually changed the review because of that question. showing both "on for you" and "left off for now" before Apply is exactly the bit i'd want to see as an owner. will look for it in the next release.
Thanks for the careful review, OCTYN. Your question helped us make the review clearer. The "On for you" and "Left off for now" lists are in v2.1.1 now: github.com/Hearthplug/mosaic-erp/r...
If you try it, we'd welcome another review, especially anything that still feels unclear before Apply.
i opened the live demo this morning. one funny catch: the shared store is already configured by whoever visited last, so i landed straight in Daily work, not the interview/review screen i wanted to check. the note about the reset is clear though. is there a way to replay the setup without changing the shop for everyone else? don't want to click Apply on a shared demo just to inspect the on/off lists.
fast turnaround. will pull v2.1.1 and go at the pre apply screen again, if anything still reads murky before the commit you will hear about it
Thanks! One heads-up: v2.1.5 is now the current release - everything in v2.1.1 plus a real Settings screen, correct local currency per region, a 12-bug full-sweep fix pass, and the latest sign-in fixes. The review before Apply works the same way. Would love to hear how the pre-Apply screen reads on v2.1.5.
Good question. Nothing in the demo changes until you click Apply on the review screen, so you can walk through the interview and read the on/off lists freely - the shared shop only reshapes on Apply. If someone else applied in the meantime, the demo resets itself about 6 hours after the last visit, so you will get a clean interview then. A fresh local install is the other option if you want a fully private run.
nice pace. on the pre-Apply check for v2.1.5, the thing i'll be looking at: does the review screen show what will change, not just what will happen. "this field goes from X to Y" lets the user catch the one wrong assumption before it hits the books. a diff earns trust, a description just asks for it.
Well put - a diff earns trust, a description just asks for it. The pre-Apply review today lists what's on for you and what's left off before anything commits (that came straight from your earlier question). Field-level before/after on edits is the right next bar for that screen, and we're already working on it. Thanks for staying on it, OCTYN.
the on/off list already catches the "wait, i didn't mean to touch that" case. field-level before/after turns it from a checklist into an actual review. good iteration speed.
when the field-level before/after ships, screenshot the review screen itself for the launch post. diffs photograph well, descriptions don't, and "see exactly what changes before you commit" is a stronger image than any feature list.
That launch-post idea is exactly right - when the before/after diff ships, the post leads with a screenshot of the review screen itself. "See exactly what changes before you commit" says more than any feature list. And your checklist-to-review framing is the bar we're building to: the field-level diff is already in progress, it'll be up shortly. Keep the feedback coming, OCTYN - comments like yours are real motivation.
when the diff lands, demo it on a change that touches money, a price update or a tax edit, not a safe toy field. "see exactly what changes" hits different when the thing changing is a number someone would have gotten blamed for.
Agreed. A before/after on a safe field proves the mechanics; on a price or tax change it proves the point. The launch demo will use a money change, with the diff shown on the exact number someone could get blamed for. Thanks for the push - this is going into the plan as the demo scenario.
That whole thread with OCTYN is a masterclass in turning feedback into shipped features fast. "A diff earns trust, a description just asks for it" is a line I'm stealing. The Apply-doesn't-apply-what-you-reviewed bug is the scary kind because it's silent. Glad the fix landed before someone's stock tracking got switched on by surprise.
Thanks, Kudzai - the credit goes to OCTYN for asking the questions in public. The silent-apply case was the one we most wanted dead: the review before Apply now lists both "On for you" and "Left off for now", and Apply only touches what you saw on that screen. Steal the line with our blessing.
