It was a huge life decision, but looking back, I’m still really glad I chose to build my life here.
Yeah, that was truly an amazing moment! Before the results came out, I was literally thinking that even passing would be difficult. I was like, “Forget IIT Bombay, any college would be fine, just let me pass!” But then I actually got IIT Bombay. It took me almost 15 days to believe that it had really happened!
By the way, settling in the Netherlands is a pretty special moment too! Honestly, your name made me think you might have lived in Japan before, so I was a little confused about it. :D

I love this reminder, Divya. 😊 We don’t always have to rush towards the next goal without appreciating how far we’ve come. Sometimes, the moments we feel proudest of are the ones that remind us what we’re capable of, especially when we look back at how much effort it took to get there. We deserve to pause and give ourselves credit for those moments, too.

I want to mention my first working program that I wrote (back in 2022 I guess).
Using simple string manipulation encrypting text so that we can use it to send messages to a friend in code language. At that time it felt really cool!
One of the things I'm most proud of is looking back at the code I've written the old-fashioned way, one line at a time.
Since I wrote every line myself, there's a special sense of accomplishment when everything finally works.
AI can generate code instantly, but that feeling of typing every line by hand, thinking through every piece of logic, and watching a program come to life from scratch is something AI-generated code just can't replace.
Shouldn’t you become One-Punch Man then? 😂

After more than 20 years in IT, I’ve worked on countless systems, solved some pretty challenging problems, and built things I’m genuinely proud of.
But strangely enough, the moment that still makes me smile isn’t my biggest project or most complicated architecture.
It’s remembering the first time I made something work entirely on my own. No fancy tools, no AI assistants, just curiosity, patience, and a lot of trial and error. 😂
That little feeling of “Wait… I actually built this!” never really goes away.
Even today, when something I’ve been struggling with finally works, I still get that same excitement.
I guess that’s what keeps us going. Technology changes, tools evolve, but the joy of creating something from nothing stays the same. ❤️
And honestly, I hope I never lose that feeling.

So, what came to mind pretty quickly for me - I think that must be when I got pretty glowing reviews after one of my first assignments in my first job, which wasn't even coding, but more like business/organization analysis - that project turned out to be a pretty big success ...
So, maybe I missed my real "calling" as an 'analyst', rather than as a developer, because I've always loved interviewing users to gather requirements and find out "what they really want" ...
I still have more fondness for that kind of stuff than for the purely technical stuff (although in later assignments I did increasingly more of the latter and less of the former) - must be that I missed my true calling LOL - but never mind, things go as they go and that's life, it's all good!
P.S. really going completely off topic now, but when I think what I should REALLY have attempted though, instead of development - theoretical physics! It has always fascinated me immensely - but I have no idea if I'd been any good at it, because it's crazy difficult - so yeah maybe it's for the better ;-)

Yeah like I said, I would probably suck at it LOL - I was moderately good at highschool physics, very likely not nearly good enough for university physics, so it's probably for the better that I chose development instead ;-)
That being said, it has nonetheless always fascinated me enormously!
One moment that still makes me feel proud is receiving the Award of Academic Excellence from the Mayor of Ludhiana 🏆, along with securing State Rank 9 in the Mathematics Olympiad last year 🥇.
