Hi everyone! I'm Kaushik, a backend engineer doing a Masters in Data Science at RMIT in Melbourne.
I've been building Claude Remote, a Claude Code plugin that lets me start Claude Code sessions on my own PC from my phone, with my whole setup loaded. My first post here will be about why I built it, and the bugs that passed every test along the way.
Looking forward to reading what everyone's building. Say hi if you're into developer tools or Claude Code!
Welcome Kaushik! What inspired you to create Claude Remote in the first place?
Hey Francis, thanks for taking time to reply! I built Claude remote to access my codebase WITH my custom hooks, rules and skills, because I didnāt want it to go via discord or any other apps except the stack Iām familiar with (tailscale and SSH uk?)
Yea that's fair. I found that interesting to see you built, so I wanted to know the reason since I was curious. Good work either way!
Hi Kaushik! That custom Claude remote setup sounds incredibly smart. I've also been diving deep into AI agents and recently built an MCP Server for Claude during a hackathon to handle custom tools and workflows. Bypassing other apps and using SSH/Tailscale for direct access is a great architectural choice. I'd love to connect and learn more about how you structured those custom skills!
Thanks Jose! Small correction that's actually part of the story: it's Tailscale only, with no SSH. SSH was my first design, but a terminal on a phone screen turned out to be the wrong tool for driving Claude, so the phone just taps "start" and the Claude app does the rest.
My skills stay private since they're tailored to how I work, but the general idea is simple: short written playbooks for how I plan, review and ship, which Claude Code follows in every project. Happy to connect and chat about it! What does your MCP server handle? I'm always curious what tools people end up wiring in š¤
I truly did not want to put up my custom hooks and skill sonto github in order for being able to start remote sessions on claude lol
Welcome Kaushik,Looking forward to your post
Thanks mate! I'm excited for the luanch
Hi Kaushik, welcome! Claude Remote sounds like a really practical idea. I'm especially curious about the "bugs that passed every test" part of your first post, those are usually the most valuable stories. Looking forward to reading it!
Hi Kaushik! I'm also a backend engineer working with AI agents. Keeping your own hooks and rules when connecting from your phone sounds useful. Can you approve tool calls remotely too, or mainly start and check on sessions? Looking forward to the bug stories š
Hey Margarita, thanks for taking time to reply! Lovely to meet a fellow background dev working with AI.
I can approve tool calls purely because of the fact that the sessions get started automatically with --dangerously-skip-permissions. This is not a problem personally as the skills/hooks/rules I have set up (which is the whole point of claude-remote) ensure that no harmful actions take place (like git push, deployement etc) without explicit approval.
Helloš
Heyo!!!
Hello
Welcome Kaushik. Looking forward to your post and how you built this.
Github repo and Medium article coming soon!!
Hi Kaushik! I am excited to read about your journey. I am sure it will be useful and exciting.
hiiii
Heyy!
Hi
Heyo!!
nice
nice
Welcome! "Bugs that passed every test" is painfully real. Claude Remote sounds handy, are you open-sourcing it?
hiiiiiiiiiiiš¤
Welcome! That's awesome that you created your own plugin for Claude Code.
Good luck!
That sounds like a portable setup.
Ohh it nost definitely is!! I am just refining it and its in iits last stages, hoping to go live by the weekend!
Thanks, that means a lot! Running a whole solo setup from your phone is exactly the life I built this for. The best ideas never seem to arrive when I'm at my desk. I'm curious what's in your stack. What do you find is still hard to do from mobile? That list is basically my roadmap. The repo goes public soon, so I'd love your take once you can try it.
Hey everyone! I'm Mridul, a lead software developer with 15+ years in industrial software ā the stuff that runs laser-cutting machines, PLCs, and HMIs. Mostly C#/.NET, WPF, and Beckhoff TwinCAT/ADS.
I've spent most of my career writing code for the factory floor, which is a corner of dev you don't see much of on here ā so I'm hoping to share some of the war stories and lessons. Excited to be part of the community!
Welcome Mridul! Nice to see someone with experience in the industrial side of software. What brings you to DEV mainly knowing you will share stories about your experience? Regardless, hope your journey goes well :)
Thanks Francis! Two things brought me here, really: after 15+ years I've got a pile of hard-won lessons that rarely get written down, and writing them out forces me to actually understand them properly. Industrial dev is a quiet niche online, so if these notes help even a few people who get thrown into it, that's a win. Appreciate the kind words ā glad to be here.
Hey Mridul, welcome! Thatās a really interesting background. I come from the software side but have also spent time working on the factory floor, so Iāve gained a lot more appreciation for the systems that actually keep production moving.
Nice to meet you, Mridul. I am sure I will learn a lot from your experience when you share it. Excited to learn a little about that side of Industrial software.
Thanks Clement, really appreciate the welcome! It's a corner of software that stays pretty hidden, so I'm hoping to pull the curtain back a bit. Part 1's already up if you fancy a look ā more on the way.
Software that runs laser cutters is a curious thing to learn from. How does it differ from browser apps and servers?
Great question ā honestly that could be a whole post on its own (adding it to the list!). The short version: in a web app the worst case is usually a 500 and a retry. Here the "server" is a physical machine with moving parts and a laser, so timing and state are part of correctness ā a bug can damage hardware or hurt someone, not just fail a request. The PLC is always running its own control loop; my C# app is more of a guest that observes and commands it than the source of truth. And there's no "just refresh" ā the state is physical and real.
Hi everyone!
